THREAT OF FUTURE MARGINALISATION OF MUSLIMS IN INDIA

Several instances of religious discrimination and further marginalization of the Muslims have come to notice in this coronavirus pandemic. Vegetable vendors are being asked to show their religious identity, demanding their Aadhaar cards, those who are found to be Muslims are not allowed to do business in Hindu areas. Strangely, Muslim women are being refused groceries because of their religion. Not only in private domains, but this discrimination is happening in government domains too.

A pregnant Muslim woman was refused to be admitted to the government hospital, which leads to the delivery of a baby in the ambulance itself which further lead to the baby's death. Another govt hospital has been accused of separating the wards based on religion for treating COVID 19 patients. In some places, workers are being thrashed because of their religion.

Inhumanity among people has grown to this level that people are being denied food based on their faith. These instances may seem disparate and isolated ones limited to some states, but the danger they pose to India's growth and development prospects is huge, nevertheless. But, RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION will also endanger economic prosperity.

According to a multi-disciplinary global study spanning 109 countries over 100 years, religious discrimination is bad for the economic health of a country. Religious discrimination has the potential to de-rail far more than just the social harmony and democratic order of a country.
